After completing school in Hempstead, Irene Moore attended college for one year and then taught school in Hempstead for one year, earning $75 per month. She received warrants that were paid by the school only as funds were available, so she had to sell the warrants at a substantial discount for money to live on. After one year of teaching, Irene left to work in Houston and married Bob Waddell. From 1938 to 1948, Irene and Bob and their children Ouida and Bobby lived a few miles northeast of Hempstead in the Shiloh community. Irene lived the longest of the Moore children, being almost 95 when she died.
