She believed that his father, Ted, had some sort of epilepsy-related problems, and that Gertie his mother had maybe heart problems, but at any rate, they were not able to raise him. He talked in later years of going home with other families to play, and even being unfairly blamed for things their children did. It appeared to have been very hard on him not being with his real family.
