MR. G. G. BURDAN
The death occurred: recently of Mr. George Groves Burdan, who was well known in farming circles. His greatgrandfather, Mr. Richard Prouse, arrived in- New Zealand in 1840, and his grandfather was one of the early Wainui-o-mata settlers. The Burdans moved to Gollan's Valley from Wainui-o-mata in 1919, and later went to Eastbourne. Mr. G. G. Burdan took an active part in local public affairs and was a member of the New Zealand Farmers' Union practically from its inception. As his property in Gollan's Valley was contiguous to the Eastbourne Borough, the late Mr. Burdan generously agreed to a realignment of boundaries in order to facilitate borough arrangements. He is survived by his widow, five sons, four brothers, and a sister.
