Cambell and Allied Families refers to an inscription at the Steele Creek Presbyterian Churchyard for William that says he died at age 71 on 10 Oct 1834, born in 1761. Those numbers don't add up, so leading me to think the 1834 was an error, and it should read 1832. William's son Robert M Campbell applied in Fayette County, Tennessee, on 7 Jul 1857 for a pension for William's service in the Revolutionary War. William was a private in the Company commanded by Read or Polk, in the Regiment commanded by Col (unknown). It is believed he entered the service at Mecklenburg, North Carolina, in 1782 to the close of the war. It is believed he was in the following engagements: Guilford Courthouse, Hanging Rock.
