Story told by Beryl to daughter Averil, May 2007: Beryl Jarlov divorced her first husband and returned to Rotorua with her two year old son Richard, back to living at her mother's house. Still trying to come to grips with things, one of her first outings was going to the Forestry Ball with a man she had met (Rotorua is the centre of a lot of forestry and timber mill operations). While dancing with her, he asked "Have you been through the mill?" Beryl wasn't sure what to do - slap him, start crying or whatever. She had had a rough time of it the previous years but didn't think it showed all that much. After hesitating a minute, waiting for her to answer, the guy finished the sentence with "Because if you haven't, I can show you through on Friday". Yes, he worked at the sawmill, and was just trying to make polite conversation... |

From Averil Jarlov: The Holden Premier that Averil's mother had came from her mother's Uncle Allan Prouse. As well, she remember him being a 'car guy' - she remembers having Popular Mechanic's magazines that she is pretty sure came from him. |
