Carroway Funeral Home Lloydelle Athey Gay ( January 01, 1937 - August 15, 2018 ) Funeral services for Lloydelle Athey Gay, 81, of Lufkin, will be held Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Denman Avenue Baptist Church in Lufkin with Rev. Charles Roberts and Dr. Jacob Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow at Walker Cemetery in Redland. Lloydelle was born on January 1, 1937 in Lufkin, Texas, the daughter of Lloyd and Lillie Belle Athey, and died on August 15, 2018 at her home. Lloydelle was a Christian who lived her faith each day. She avidly studied her bible and treasured her friends in the Esther Sunday School Class. She was a gifted musician, and at age 12, began the first of many years serving as church pianist. She had a lovely soprano singing voice and sang in the church choir for decades. She played piano accompaniment for every UIL Solo contest and attended countless games and concerts for her grandchildren. Lloydelle loved to sew and made banners for church and elaborate costumes for the many children’s Christmas programs. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and she had great fun decorating for the holiday season. She loved her family, especially her favorite grandchild (you know who you are!) Nothing gave her greater pleasure than having her entire family gathered to celebrate and to eat a big meal together. Lloydelle is survived by her children, Randy Gay of the Lufkin State Supported Living Center, Ricky Gay and his wife, Kristi, and Charlotte Daniel and her husband, Dannie; grandchildren, Kendall Gay, Brandall Daniel and his wife, Elizabeth, Bailey Gay Miller, and her husband, Ben, Kyle Daniel, and his wife, Kandace, and Wyatt Gay; and great-grandsons, Samuel Daniel and Emerson Miller. Lloydelle is also survived by her sister, Linda Buchanan, and sisters-in-law, Melba Stark, Lillie McCall, and Eddie Hosmer along with their families. Lloydelle was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Leland Gay, in 1995. She was always by his side helping with his businesses and many adventures. She never stopped missing him. Pallbearers are grandsons Brandall Daniel, Kyle Daniel, Wyatt Gay, and Ben Miller, and church friends Ken Reeves, Wes Reeves, Craig Coleman, and Mike Tyler. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Waltman, Rory Swan, Ron Meadows, and the deacons of Denman Avenue Baptist Church. Memorial contributions in Lloydelle’s name may be made to the charity of your choice. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, August 17, 2018 at Denman Avenue Baptist Church in Lufkin. Carroway Funeral Home, Lufkin directors |
