WALLINGFORD, M.D., a native of Lewis County, Ky., was born August 31, 1841, and is a son of Mark and Martha A. (Willett) Wallingford. Mark Wallingford was born in Mount Gilead, Mason County, Ky., May 3, 1804, and was a son of Nicholas Wallingford, a native of Virginia, who settled in Mount Gilead, where he died. Mark Wallingford was a merchant, and died in 1858, a member of the Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Martha A. Wallingford was a daughter of Richard Willett, of Maysville, Ky., who was a native of Virginia. Mrs. Wallingford was born March 10, 1810, and died January 7, 1883, a member of the Presbyterian Church. Alvin M. Wallingford was born and reared in Tolesborough, Lewis County, and received his education at Washington, Mason County. He read medicine with Dr. James Shackelford, of Maysville, Ky., and graduated from the Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, in 1865; in the same year he located in Mount Carmel, Fleming County, where he has since been actively engaged in the practice of his chosen profession. In 1867 he married Miss Bettie Foxworthy, a daughter of Alexander Foxworthy, of Mount Carmel. They are the parents of one child, Alexander, who was born October 7, 1868, and is studying medicine with his father. Doctor and Mrs. Wallingford are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. Dr. Wallingford is a member of the Sons of Temperance. In politics he is a Republican. |
