Letter from J. Powers to T.G. Wallingford, January 1900, refers to the death of "Doc Wallingford" but now fairly certain it was not Alvin Monroe Wallingford, as he did not live south of Flemingsburgh. Death index for Kentucky gives this date, and parents match, so quite sure it is the right one.

Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, 1887 Fleming County

ALVIN M. WALLINGFORD, M.D., a native of Lewis County, Ky., was born August 31, 1841, and is a son of Mark and Martha A. (Willett) Wallingford. Mark Wallingford was born in Mount Gilead, Mason County, Ky., May 3, 1804, and was a son of Nicholas Wallingford, a native of Virginia, who settled in Mount Gilead, where he died. Mark Wallingford was a merchant, and died in 1858, a member of the Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Martha A. Wallingford was a daughter of Richard Willett, of Maysville, Ky., who was a native of Virginia. Mrs. Wallingford was born March 10, 1810, and died January 7, 1883, a member of the Presbyterian Church. Alvin M. Wallingford was born and reared in Tolesborough, Lewis County, and received his education at Washington, Mason County. He read medicine with Dr. James Shackelford, of Maysville, Ky., and graduated from the Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, in 1865; in the same year he located in Mount Carmel, Fleming County, where he has since been actively engaged in the practice of his chosen profession. In 1867 he married Miss Bettie Foxworthy, a daughter of Alexander Foxworthy, of Mount Carmel. They are the parents of one child, Alexander, who was born October 7, 1868, and is studying medicine with his father. Doctor and Mrs. Wallingford are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. Dr. Wallingford is a member of the Sons of Temperance. In politics he is a Republican.

Shared note

Alvin Monroe is referred to in correspondence between Thomas Ginn Wallingford and his brother Lewis Bean Wallingford. It would be almost certain that T.G.'s son Alvin was named after him.

Shared note

He registered for the Civil War in September 1863, in the Sub District, Kentucky, Class 1, 9th Congressional District, when he was 21 (a physician). He was unmarried.
