Letter from Phyllis to Cuffie Tunnington, 22 May 1973
Phyllis wrote shortly after returning from Levin, following her brother Allan Prouse's death. Allan had left Beryl his old Holden car. Cuffie had apparently been left a camera. Phyllis felt it may have been Allan wanting to make amends. Cuffie had asked Phyllis about what Ohakune had been like when Cuffie's mother (Phyllis' sister) Grace had lived there in the early 1900s, but Phyllis had little knowledge or recollection. She also discussed matters relating to Taihape and Mangaweka. Discussed an Arthur Silk, maybe associated with Silk, Smith and Somebody Stables. "His wife somewhat buxom aimed at refainment (sic), she it was who complained to Jess & Mabel & Grace that the servant girl had pushed thPhyllis Elizabethe pram up her back passage, which she had polished only that morning (Bland expressions were held under greate pressure.)" Father Le Croix appears to have fathered a child with Tina's sister "Aunt Liz", the child being named Felice (the Father's christian name being Felix). According to Tina, Liz was later required to repay in a like manner, taking a child of some other woman and a priest. That child was named Hinemoa.
