Pioneer Citizen of County Buried Friday Afternoon

Arthur W. Howell, one of Waller County's oldest citizens passed away November 9 at the age of 85 years of a heart attack.

Mr. Howell was born in Montgomery, Texas where he lived until he moved to Waller county 60 years ago.

He was one of the few residents of this section who lived during the Civil war period and liked to tell about the trade that was carried on between Texas and Mexico at that time, and on one occasion, he went with his grandfather on a trading expedition into Mexico. He had been interviewed by several historians concerning the early history of this county.

Funeral services were held at New Hope church last Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock with Rev. Walton Day, assisted by Rev. Henry James of Dayton, officiating.

Survivors are his wife; one son, A.S. Hwoell (sic) of Waller, two daughters, Mrs. G.O. Vaught of Waller and Mrs. E.D. Sorsby of Hempstead; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. J.W. Weisinger of Montgomery, and Mrs. Hattie Wallingshaw of Houston, one brother, T.R. Ryals of Conroe.

Pallbearers were Judge George O. Crump, J.H. Day, of Hempstead, A.W. Umland, W.P. Castle, W.G. Hakemack, Roy McClellan, Cyrus Sorsby and Alton McWilliams of Waller.
