Nicholas Wallingford married twice. His first wife was Alice Hayes and they were married 18 Nov 1779 in Berkeley County, Virginia. The marriage records of Berkeley Co do not support this date of marriage. However, it is possible that the record was recorded in another county. Or perhaps, it was never officially recorded. Alice died ca. 1810 in Kentucky. Nicholas married his second wife, Mary Guinn on 10 Sep 1810 in Mason County, KY. Mary was born 24 Mar 1789 and died 2 Nov 1855. She married Jonathan Ruggles after Nicholas died. - from http://www.geocities.com/heartland/meadows/1115/Nicholas2/nich2.html |

From http://thebecketts.com/genealogy/wallingford/wallingford.html NICHOLAS WALLINGFORD [was the] second child and oldest son of BENJAMIN FRANKLIN WALLINFORD, was born December 14, 1759 and died September 5, 1829. He was a courageous leader among the pioneers who worked their way southward from the OHIO RIVER. He and other relatives took up a large tract of land about twelve miles south of MAYSVILLE along the boundary between what is now MASON and FLEMING counties. They built large substantial homes for themselves. Many of the homes that they built more than one hundred years ago are still in a fine state of preservation and are very attractive. The settlement which they made was name MT. GILEAD. They transformed the wilderness into fine farms and farmed quite extensively. |

Nick Wallingford, June 2010: When I was young - about 1960 I think it might have been - we took a trip up the East Coast. We attended the Wallingford Reunion that was held in Maysville, and visited the old cemetery where some of the Wallingford's were buried. I remember seeing the tombstone of Nicholas, and there is a photo somewhere of us standing beside it. It was pretty over-grown with weeds and poison ivy, as I remember. The inscription (this written later - not from my memories of the visit!) was: His race was swift, His rest is sweet; |
