He was living at the house of his parents, 102 Derwyn Street, Island Bay, Wellington, when he signed up. He was 5 foot 8 1/2 inches tall. He weighted 108 1/2 pounds. He had a scar on his left breast. He had a fair complexion, fair hair and blue eyes. He was a post and telegraph mechanician. He was a Presbyterian. He spent nearly 4 years overseas, and appears to have been wounded and to have contracted pneumonia to the extent that he was returned to New Zealand on the Marama in 1919. He joined the unit for service at Gallipolli, on 26 October 1915, then departed 2 months later for Egypt. He appears to have spent time in Greece and France as well. |
