In 1928, the family was living near Hamilton (Hamilton electorate), on Claude St, Claudelands - Frank William was a labourer. Gladys was using her middle name here as "Gladys Pretoria TOWNSEND".) They moved at some point to Mangere, just south of Auckland (where the airport area is), and were living on McIntyre Road in 1935 and 1938 (Otahuhu electorate). In 1946, Gladys was living on McIntyre Road - and Joan Evelyn (different spelling of her middle name) was registered there as well.
