10 October 2014 June Taylor Wills said that Brian was born in Cobdan (Greymouth), on the West Coast of New Zealand. His father was somehow employed and involved with radios, and they were transferred to Christchurch. Brian went to Boy's High School in Christchurch. She said Brian had built his own transmitter and received, and that on Saturday mornings, he and his Dad had a 'sked', a planned opportunity to talk to each other using their ham radios. When he first began to complain of abdominal pain, it was diagnosed as "high piles" and then later as a "thin lining on the bowel". By the time they found he had a cancer of the pancreas and intestine, it was too late to do anything for it. She feels he died far too young... |

10 October 2014 June said that one of the reasons for buying the long, deep section on Otonga Road was so that Brian could have a wire antenna stretching down the section. She said he always wanted to have a mast type antenna, but never got to the point of erecting one. |

October 2014 After asking some of the old time radio people in Rotorua, it was found that Brian held license ZL1AMD, and was a member of the Rotorua club from 1960 to 1968. After he died (some time later) June donated his equipment to the Whakatane radio club. |
