Story on the Benningfield family site on ancestry.com: Information from Thelma Burden Campbell, March 1985 John Caldwell Campbell farmed at Field Store, Waller County. Later he moved to Houston, Texas where he worked as a carpenter. He soon developed an ulcer of the stomach. At that time they did not have the medicine for ulcers. He was in and out of the hospital. He was unable to work, so his wife went to work and he stayed home to take care of the house, laundry and cooking. After his wife Lillie Campbell died Lee Olen and Dorothy Campbell moved in with him at his house at 618 W. 28th Street. He was in the back yard when he felt the heart attack coming on. He was able to go in the house to his room and fell across his bed when he died. Lillie Leska Sprayberry Campbell went to work in a dress factory after John Campbell was unable to work. She was working there when she developed a cancer in her breast. She had a breast removed and lived two months after she came home from the hospital. She died at her home at 618 West 28th St., Houston, Texas. |
