From Averil Jarlov

When Cuffie's mother Grace died, it was almost like Grandma's own mother had died, as she had probably had a lot to do with raising her. After Grace died, Cuffie was raised by her grandmother Christina.

Shared note

June Taylor Wills says that she was named for a combination of "Christina" (for her grandmother) and "Mabel" (for her mother's sister) - coming up with "Christobel". The young girl could never say it, so in calling herself "Cuffie" as a child, it stuck throughout her life.

from The Prouse Connection:

Lecturer in music, collector of antique clocks, genealogist.

Shared note

For the 1957 Electoral Roll, she was living in Wellington Central, at 133 Tinakori Road, and was registered as a 'spinster'.

Shared note

She died in her home at 53 Winera Avenue, Waikanae.

Shared note

She is shown as attending the Levin School, leaving on 17 December 1926, with Mrs. C. Prouse recorded as her parent/guardian.

Shared note

Letter from Phyllis Prouse Taylor to Christobel Nation Tunnington, 9 August 1979:

Phyllis is describing a photo that Cuffie had sent her of Cuffie playing the piano. Phyllis is fairly certain she took the photo.

She believes the music to be a simple three-quarter time. There is a painting on the wall, a dull brown fawn print, possibly a Constable, in a narrow gold frame.

The chairs were pretty, made of mahogany with a red flower damask upholstery. Phyllis said that Rich and Tina had accepted them as payment or part payment for a timber debt from the Wellington part of the company.

Postcard from Cuffie to Phyllis (Prouse) Taylor, 23 Dec 1965

Cuffie describes staying overnight with her husband John in a castle in Portugal, knowing that Phyllis would like the description of the restored castle and neighbouring village.
