1845 Alachua County, Florida Voters Registration FORT HARLEE PRECINCT House of Mrs. Ann Monroe
Election Inspectors: W. C. Allen, Nathaniel Jones, Jeheu Sparkman
Election Clerk: Jesse Willis
HOLDER, Joseph Jr.

The son, Joseph would have only been 16 years old at the time, which mean that this must be the father, listed on the 1840 census of Columbia County, Florida. This indicates that his Father's name was also Joseph Bell HOLDER.
ID: I280931
Name: Joseph Bell HOLDER
Surname: HOLDER
Given Name: Joseph Bell
Sex: M
_UID: 0ED906BBFE4FC7439CBA665EE2DADDFEB0D6
Note:
This is NOT proven, however there are multiple instances of documentary evidence to support it.

The 1845 voter's registration for Alachua County, Florida list a Joseph Holder jr. The two Joseph HOLDERs that this researcher (Jason Haydon) knows of in Alachua County, Florida around that time period are:
Joseph HOLDER born approximately 1780 and his son Joseph Bell HOLDER born in Georgia in 1827.
Because of voting laws at the time, which restricted voting to white males age 21 and up, this could not have been the son (later land records do list him as jr,) because he would have only been age 17 or 18.
Therefore, we have the first evidence that Joseph HOLDER, born 1780 was fully named Joseph Bell HOLDER jr.

The second piece of evidence is convoluted at best. Some researchers have previously stated that Joseph (b. 1780) was from Camden County Co., GA. No proof is ever given, except that the Joseph listed as head of household in the 1810 and1820 censuses for Camden County Co., GA are the only times a Joseph HOLDER is found as head of household in Georgia before 1860, where his and Hannah's children were born.

What no one seems to have taken into consideration is the actual family data from the census records of 1830 Hamilton County, Florida and 1840 Columbia County Florida

1830 census, Hamilton County, Florida p173 list the following:

males: 1-under 5; 1- 5 thru 10; 1-40 thru 50

females: 1-under 5; 2-5 thru 10; 1-40 thru 50

indetified as:
males; Joseph b. 1829(age1), Thomas b. 1823(age 7), Joseph (exact age unknown)
females: Susan b. 1827 (age 3), Mary Rebecca b. 1826\ (should be age 4, listed 5-10) Hannah b.1785 (age 45)

One unidentified female age 5-10 (died or married before 1850)

1840 census Columbia County, Florida p152
males 1 - under 5; 1 - 5 thru 10; 1 10 thru 15; 1 - 50 thru 60
females 2 - 10 thru 15, 1- 15 thru 20; 1- 20 thru 30; 1 50 thru 60

Information on known children; from the 1850 census, helps us to identify most listed in 1840 ask:
males: Joseph B b. 1829 (age 10 when census was taken) Joseph B b. 1780-1790
females: Susan b. 1827 (age 13) and Mary Rebecca b. 1825 (age 15) Hannah b. 1785 (age 55)
the other two males are unidentified (under 5 and 10-15.) and the other two females are unidentified( 1 of the 5-10 and the 20-30.

Now, taking into consideration that there are no known children born before 1823, we look at the 1820 census of Camden County Co., GA page 50

males: 1 under 10; 1 - 25 thru 45; 1 45 and over
females: 2 under 10; 1 25 thru 45

Now if this is Joseph from the 1830 and 1840 census, what happened to these three children, none of which appear on the 1830 census, or the 1840 census. However, if Joseph truly was a "junior" as the 1845 voter's registration of Alachua County says, The Joseph listed as head of household very well could be the male age 45 and above, and Joseph (b. 1780-1790) would not be the head of household listed, but would be the male age 25-45 (he would be between ages 30 and 40 in 1820).

There is also a reonstructed 1810 census for Camden County Co., GA: taken from county records at the time. It does list a Joseph Holder. Nothing else is listed on this, but depending on when Joseph (jr\) was born, he may have been to young to be listed on this list, because it was comprised from tx list (age 21 and above, and if he was born in 1789/1790 depending on month of birth/date taxes were collected, he Joseph (jr\) could very well have only been age 19/20 in 1810.)

Therefore it does appear to me that the Joseph age 45 and up on the 1820 census of Camden County Georgia, and the Joseph on the 1845 Alachua County Florida Voter's registration list are father and son.Name: Joseph Holder
Age: 61
Estimated birth year: abt 1789
Birth Place: Georgia
Gender: Male
Home in 1850(City,County,State): District 9, Camden, Georgia
