Shared note
|
From Arthur Moore, Jr., January 2010: Vernon Moore volunteered for World War I in 1918. However, he needed parental consent since he was only 17 years old, and his mother Eliza refused to consent. Vernon later left Hempstead to work in the oil fields and in other businesses. During World War II and unmarried, he sold his business in Victoria, enlisted in the Army, and served overseas in Europe. It is interesting to note that Melvin Moore was in the Confederate Army during the Civil War and his youngest son Vernon was in World War II 80 years later. Vernon Moore died in Houston in 1952 at the age of 51, and is buried in the Hempstead Cemetery. |
