Henry was a fiddle player in his younger days, playing in the area from Hempstead to Austin, Hockley to Bryan. |

Birth date is not certain - could be as late as 1850. One source has it as 14 May 1846. Most census records would indicate 1848 as more likely. |

In 1880, H.W. Ogg was recorded in the Productions of Agriculture Report for Waller County (T.G. Wallingford was the person who did the recording!) Henry owned his own property, with 8 acres of improved/tilled land and 100 acres of woodland. He had another 40 acres of unimproved land, which may have been 'old fields not growing weeds'. His farm land was worth $500, with another $80 worth of farm machinery and $350 of livestock. During 1879 he paid $10 for 2 weeks of labor from colored laborers. The value of his farm's production was put at $50 for the 1879 year. He had 8 working cows and another 3 milk cows, plus another 3 'other' cattle. There had been only 1 calf born during the year. One cow was sold living and another was slaughtered during the year. He made about 60 pounds of butter in the year. He had 15 pigs and 31 barnyard fowl. He collected 40 dozen eggs from the chickens... He had 7 acres of Indian corn, which produced 50 bushels in total. He had 1/8 (?) acre of Irish potatoes that produced 10 bushels, and another 1 acre of sweet potatoes that produced 20 bushels. He cut 20 cords of wood from his land during the year, valued at about $20. |
