From Nick Wallingford, 20 August 2008: Sondra was my oldest first cousin on my Dad's side, and 15 years older than them - as a child, that was a lot! I was once taken up to Uncle Bob and Aunt Ruth's by Sondra on a bus. I can't remember the circumstances, but I would have been about 4 years old, make her about 19. As we travelled up Highway 290, with some passengers sleeping or quietly sitting, I spotted a cord running the length of the bus above the window - as a child, I didn't know it was used to ring the buzzer to tell the driver you wanted to get off at the next stop. Sondra quietly watched me watching the cord, until finally I just had to see what it did. As I reached up and over to it, she caught my hand before I could have embarrassed us both before all the bus passengers! |
