Information from Edna Ruth Wallingford Lange at Wallingford reunion - 5/16/92, identifying people in the photos of the Fields Store school. Smallest school picture - Field Store School located very near cemetary (now it is a community center) John Roland is 4th from right on the front row Virgil is 4th from right on the 4th row Edna Ruth is 2nd from right on row Teacher on the left was Miss Mayholt, a very good teacher Edna Ruth was a first grader, age 7. She remembers there were double desks and one day the girl who shared her desk wet her pants - then she says, "Oh, I shouldn't tell things like that." She says it was a one room style school with 2 teachers This is the only year that Edna Ruth attended this school. Her father died in 1922 and the family went to live with Grandma and Grandpa Hegar and Aunt Maye near Magnolia. Aunt Maye taught school in Magnolia and the children attended there. Larger Field Store School picture - Teacher is Miss Archer - she thinks this is an earlier picture - can't find herself. Either Roland or Corinne had identified Roland as the 4th from left on the 2nd row, but Edna Ruth says it doesn't look like him. Is Virgil 6th from left on row 3??? |
