from Lucille Clepper Mehrkam AAFA #0032, Member AAFA Hall of Fame (AAFA Action #53 - Getting to Know Our Ancestors, pages 29 and following):

Harry "Big Harry" Alford said his grandfather married three times, he was a little Scotchman, wore a patch over one eye, and traveled between MS and Texas. The last time he saw his grandfather was at the funeral of his brother, Julius Peachman Alford on 28 March 1901.

Some family tradition says he was married three times but this is the only wife known. He wore a black patch over one eye.

The Alford-Thames family probably moved to Texas about 1852 and settled in southeast Grimes County and shortly after in western Montgomery County.
