I J. P. Alford do hereby make application to the Commissioner of Pensions for a pension to be granted me under the Act passed by the Thirty-first Legislature of the State of Texas, and approved Mch 26, 1909.

I enlisted and served in the military service of the Confederate States due the war between the States of the United States, and that I did not desert the Confederate service etc; I was honorably discharged on about the twenty seventh (27th) day of May AD 1865 - war over. that I have been a bona fide citizen of the State since prior to Jan. 1, 1880.

I do further state that the answers given to the following questions are turn.

1. What is your age? seventy one last birthday.

2. Where were you born? Monroe County, Alabama.

3. How long have you resided in Texas? Fifty seven years.

4. In what county do you reside? Montgomery.

5. How long have you resided in said county? about twenty years. Magnolia, Tx.

6. Have you applied for a pension under the Confederate pension law and been rejected: never applied before.

7. What is your occupation? Farming.

8. In what State was the command in which you served organized? Alabama.

9. How long did you serve? 1861-65.

10. What was the letter of your company, number of battalion, regt.etc. Enlisted in Sept. 1861.

11. If transferred from one command to another, give time of transfer etc. never transferred.

12. What branch of service did you enlist in, infantry, cavalry, artillery or navy. Infantry vols.

13. If Commissioned etc. none

14. If detailed for special service what was the nature of your service. Never detailed for special service.

15. Have you transferred to others any property of any kind for the purpose of becoming a beneficiary under this law? no

Affidavit of Witnesses State of Texas County of Harris.

Before me A. E. Amennam, County Judge of Harris Co. appeared P. C. McKee and E. T. Etheridge. Stated they in Army at the same time and knew J. P. Alford.

Conf. Records show that Pvt. John P. Alford joined Capt. John R. Kennard's Grimes Boys, Nelson's Regiment Texas Infantry at age 17. Joined at Anderson, Tx. on 13 Nov. 1861. Mustered into service
at Va Point by Lt. Weaver.

He is listed on the Roll of Prisoners of War paroled and sent from Camp Douglas, Ill., May 13, 1863 and delivered at City Point, Va. 21 May 1863.

Muster Roll dated Jan. 11, 1864 list J. P. Alford, Pvt. Co. A. 10th Regt Texas. convalescents in

Cannon Hospital at La Grange, Ga. on Jan. 11, 1864.

PAROLE RECORDS Headquarters 16th Army Corps, Office Provost Marshall, Montgomery, Al. 30 May 1865.

I, the undersigned J. P. Alford, Private CO A. 10th Texas Regt. Do Solemnity Swear that I will not bear arms against the United States of America, or give any information or do any military duty
whatever, until regularly exchanged as a prisoner of war. Signed; J. P. Alford.
