MARRIAGE OF DAY, JAMES WILBURN AND BRYSON, RACHEL CELESTE |
---|
Shared note
|
J.W. Day and D.H. Field were the two who donated the original land for the Fields' Store Cemetery. |
---|---|
Shared note
|
In the 1900 Waller County, Texas census James was living with his son Julius Bryson, along with Bryson's 4 children - presumed Bryson's wife is dead. |
Shared note
|
J.W. Day's older children stayed in North Carolina when he moved out to Texas. Arthur Moore, Jr. said that his grandfather, Melvin Moore, corresponded with at least one of them, W. A. Day, who wrote a book about his Company during the Civil War. Arthur Moore, Jr. has a copy of the book entitled "A True History of Company I, 49th Regiment, North Carolina Troops, in the Great Civil War between the North and South," published in 1893. |
Shared note
|
Arthur Moore, Jr. says that his father Arthur Moore, Sr. and his Uncle Melvin saw James going berry picking, bucket in hand. He didn't return and his family had no idea where he was. Arthur and Melvin told them where they saw him going. James W. was soon found, alive but unconscious, and died soon thereafter. |
Shared note
|
Arthur Moore, Jr. says that according to Arthur Moore, Sr., James Wilburn Day is buried in the Field Store Cemetery. His grave was not marked and has been lost. Years later Arthur Moore, Sr. and one of the Day grandaughters tried to locate his grave but were unable to do so. |
Shared note
|
In the 1870 Grimes County census James and Adeline and five children are counted as being in Coatney P.O. next door to D.H. Field and his family, so believe this to be Fields Store. |
